I was introduced to the 3M Eraser tool and Rapid Remover (more on this further down) through one of my contacts within the graphics and sign industry.
In the endless attempt to find additional profit centers as add-on service to my regular detail services, I do many types of decal, car badge, emblem, and vinyl graphics removal.
As I have worked to not only develop a longer list of specialized profit centers in my detail services, I have also learned a few tips and tricks in getting the most out of the 3m Eraser tool and the Rapid Remover adhesive remover.
In most cases I am using this wheel to remove the double sided tape used to secure car badges/emblems to vehicles. These badges and emblems come in all kinds of varieties.
Back before the internet and the ability to learn much more in life and business, I used to use my finger tips to peel the double side tape of the pain after removing the initial "metal" badge.
In a short time this proved very painful as I would quickly produce a blister on my fingers due to the excessive force required to peel this double sided tape up.
The 3M eraser tool has saved my countless hours along with countless grief in the form of painful blisters.
Darren's Tips: You don't need to apply a lot of pressure when using this tool. The eraser wheel grabs onto the material you are attempting to remove and will peel it off as the wheel spins.
You can force the process along with additional pressure, but you can only do this when working on car paint and more precisely, on metal body parts that have been painted.
This means that if you are using this tool on fiberglass bumpers or fiberglass body panels (new cars of today are being made with more and more fiberglass panels that look like metal panels) you need to work with much more caution do to how traditional car paint adheres to metal panels better than fiberglass panels.
On any fiberglass panels I will only use just enough pressure to keep the wheel against the panel and allow the wheel itself to do al the work.
With over 30 years in professional detailing, I’ve tested countless products and chemicals. Most tar and adhesive removers—whether retail or professional—are ineffective and time-consuming.
Then, I found the miracle solution! (more precisely I was introduced to this product by the sign and decal shop that installed the vinyl graphics on my detail van)
WARNING: I will ad this here again
Any time you are thinking of using the Stripe-Off wheel on painted "fiberglass" (think of most car bumpers) as opposed to painted metal panels on a vehicle, you have to be extremely cautious to use very little downward pressure of the wheel during use. You only apply enough pressure to keep the wheel on the surface and allow the "grab" of the wheel to do all the work. There is potential for the wheel to also "lift" or peel off the paint from these Sheet Molded Compound panels/bumpers (SMC). These sheet molded compound panels can now be found to be used in almost any application of a vehicle.
Whether you are a professional detailer looking to expand your list of services, or a "Do-it-Yourselfer" looking to tackle the endless list of projects; the Stripe-Off Wheel and Rapid Remover will deliver!
I hope this info has helped
Sincerely,
Darren Priest
